This is the first book I know of that allows Vegans to not be perfect without guilting them. This is an imperfect world, and the vegan community is like Democrats vs. Republicans. If you don't do it "their" way, you're damned. Sorry, but that's what it's turned into. Folks, this is an imperfect world. Just do the best you can. For me, that means avoiding obvious meat, fish, fowl, dairy and eggs, but allowing incidental animal by-products in an otherwise vegan food. This has allowed me not to go obsessive compulsive crazy. For you it might be different. I know this book is geared toward younger folks, but I wish it wasn't, because it applies to all. I'm 63, and I wish I had this book years ago. This book is like a sigh of relief.

I saw the author on Dr. Oz. Decided immediately to purchase this cookbook. I do not like to eat meat for ethical & health reasons & have been searching for a good cookbook with easy to make recipes that I can cook for family & friends. I have read the cookbook completely. I am really looking forward to making some of her recipes. Great price for a very good cookbook.

Overall, a very informative book for the beginner and those more knowledgeable about Tantra.

Tantric Traditions: Gods, Rituals, and Esoteric teaches the philosophy and techniques of this Sanskrit word in the Hindu belief. Using meditation, these practitioners believe the sexual union is a metaphor of uniting a man and woman into becoming one with a god. While giving a layout of the belief in organized sections, it keeps this book easier to find the information you are looking for.While a professed Maverick in her political standing, Gwendolyn Taunton, pursues employment that allows her to keep her individualism and express her views. I read this book as research on the practice, but found it was not an area I would practice.

Mention “tantra” and almost any Westerner, no matter how sophisticated, thinks of weekend seminars on how to improve your sex life, with endorsements from the likes of Sting. In this book Gwendolyn Taunton -- widely published and well regarded esoteric writer and publisher -- brings real scholarship – and a hint of secret knowledge – to the task of rescuing Tantra from the misunderstandings and misappropriations of the West.Since the modern Westerner values sex and rebellion above all, it’s not surprising that only the most superficial aspects of Tantra have been appropriated. Through a close study of the original texts, Taunton shows that Tantra, far from being antinomian and anti-Traditional, is actually firmly rooted in the very oldest strata of the Vedas; indeed, a chapter devoted to study of the Hindu doctrine of cyclical time shows that the Tradition itself implies that the last Age, our own Kali Yuga, must develop its own methods of working with, rather than against, darkness, inertia and materialism, precisely in order to preserve Order (dharma) and keep the path to liberation open.For example, Tantra does not invalidate the caste system, but recognizes the mixing of castes and proposes its own, fifth caste which combines the others; in this way Tradition is honored while decadence is acknowledged and contained (rather than promoted or celebrated, as the Westerner does in his obsession with being “transgressive”). Taunton demonstrates throughout that Tantra’s transgressions are all committed from within Tradition and to preserve sacred Order.The chapter on cyclical time alone is worth the price of admission; especially as it also includes a discussion of how the Traditionalists (Daniélou, Evola and Guénon) have made it central to their own doctrines and thereby injected it into the wider Western consciousness. The most influential of these is Evola, and Taunton closely studies his adaptation of Tantra for the West, which authentic yet idiosyncratic. Taunton also puts Evola’s relations with Fascism in perspective; like Tantra itself, Evola was simply using the available material to construct a bulwark for Order and Tradition in the degenerating modern world.Other chapters deal with the various gods and goddesses associated with Tantra, showing how their multitudinous and contradictory forms are the sign of their reconciliation of mundane opposites into a higher unity.Taunton also explicates lesser known aspects of Tantra, such as the role of sacred places (“Topographical Religiosity”), and the very important and well-developed Hindu doctrines of sight and sound (“Lexicographical Gnoseology”), ritual elements which the West has paid scant attention to in its own traditions. In all cases, Taunton resolves their apparently wild and outré Tantric manifestations into well-grounded, conservatively intended extensions (the meaning of the word Tantra) of the Vedic traditions.The typically impatient Western reader who perseveres to the end will be rewarded with a chapter on Tantric spells and rituals for gaining power in the world of the Kali Yuga, complete with Appendices of mantras and alchemical correspondences; the material may be startling but again, the discussion is sober and non-sensationalistic, with no more emphasis than given by the Tantric texts and traditions themselves.I respectfully disagree with the earlier reviewer: rather than being “not for non-specialists,” this book is just what they need!

This thought provoking book is a compilation of essays from people who work as criminal defense lawyers. Each essay writer has a different reason for why they defend people accused of crimes. No matter what they say, it seemed to me that each was passionate about what they do. I enjoyed reading this book.

This collection is a great resource for renewing inspiration for those already involved in this work, introducing someone to the world of defending people accused of crimes, or trying to convert the skeptical.The essays range from personal storytelling to philosophical argument. The editors managed to collect a wide array of subjects within the broader field of criminal defense: defending children in juvenile court, defending adults accused of lesser offenses (the minor thefts and possession charges that flood the courts), defending adults accused of seemingly unexplainable unforgivable acts, terrorists, sex offenders, and death penalty cases.All of the authors draw in one way or another on the same basic sources of inspiration, but what is most impressive about the volume is that almost all of the authors manage to move past the more common answers to the book's question and quickly get into more nuanced and interesting explanations of their work. The authors have used this book as an opportunity to put down on paper and preserve in one place lifetimes of thought, not just on the court system but on the state of American culture as seen through the eyes and tragedies of its most desperate, vulnerable, and misunderstood people.I am a public defender and reading this book over the past few weeks after coming home from a hostile environment at the courthouse has been a great reminder of why the work is worthwhile even when it feels like there is no way to win the day to day battle: part of the job is to bear witness to the ordinary injustices of the legal system, remember them, share them with whoever will listen, and the ones who won't listen - until we outnumber them. The editors and authors of this volume have done just that.

OverviewI picked this book up for the purpose of gaining perspective and an adequate representation of each view on the rapture. While many evangelicals consider the issue of the rapture to be clearly [insert your view here], this book makes it clear that there are multiple possibilities. The book is composed of three authors (Craig Blaising, Alan Hultberg, and Douglas Moo), one of them returning from the previous book of three views (Pre, Mid, and Post). Craig represents Pre-trib, Hultberg Pre-wrath, and Moo Post-trib. All authors had a significant amount of room to flesh out their views and positions, then the other authors brought out their objects in a short response, and then (different from all over perspectives books I have read) the original author is allowed a rejoinder (a response to the criticism received).Pros1) Layout/Format – These books are designed perfectly in my opinion. I don’t believe in just copy and pasting another theologians views (as many do unfortunately), but instead gaining perspective on interpretation and thinking through prayerfully what the Bible says. These books offer a layout that is perfect for this.2) Two responses – I like the fact they allowed for a response to the responses. It adds another dimension that you always want form these books. (What would he have said to that critique? Now you know)3) Clarity on the subject – If the reader pays attention to the line of argumentation in this book for each view, I believe they can come away with a very clear perspective and idea of the subject of the rapture. Whether the reader lands at a particular view or not is irrelevant, they should be able to walk away with an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of each position4) Clear Winner/Loser – I believe in this book there was a clear winner and a clear loser. Not that any view failed to deliver an argument, but I believe one view stood out as having the least holes and another stood out as having too many holes.Cons1) Underlying theology – This is a long one, but very important. As anybody who studies eschatology knows, there is more behind your eschatological view than just reading Revelation a bunch of times. In reality the view one has of the Church/Israel and the hermeneutical approach taken has a dramatically larger effect on where the reader lands. In this book the Pre-trib author seems to be Progressive-Dispensational, but at times comes across as a classic-dispensational. The Pre-wrath author takes an eclectic approach to Revelation and a “throughout history” approach to the early part of the Olivet discourse. He also maintains that he is a Progressive-Dispensational, but clearly stated in the book that Matthew presented the church as having replaced Israel as one of his arguments for the Olivet Discourse being for the Church. (I feel like he didn’t have to do this for an argument, rather unfortunate and leaves himself open to criticism from the Pre-trib guy) Lastly, the Post-trib author seems to be a type of Historic-Premil. He views Daniels 70th week as being the entire period of time from the first advent of Christ on, which in my opinion is the hermeneutically disastrous and nearly impossible to prove in Daniel 9 such an exegetical case. He also clearly ascribes to replacement theology and in so doing opens himself up for odd interpretations and avenues for attack.a. What is worse, or what this first “Con” leads to, is that while each rapture position stands as a type of representation of each position, I feel like there is great differences even WITHIN the positions themselves because of these differences in ecclesiology and hermeneutics.My favorite part of the bookIt may seem like the large “CON” means I didn’t like the book, but that is far from the truth. I just figured I would note the problem with the different authors in the event that anybody actually gets this book after reading this. It is very important to keep that in mind when reading, so as not to deny a view based on a straw man or a false broadbrushing.The best part of this book is the perspective, depth, and resource that it brings to the Pre-mil theology student’s library. It is a helpful source, with errors in each view, but tons of good conversation and points made on each side.This Book should be read by…Everybody should read this book. It is not hard to understand. (I felt the pre-trib guy was at times convoluted, but that is because pre-tribulationism isn’t found in the Bible and convoluted arguments must be made to get there) Aside from the periods of brief linguistic analysis I feel like this book is well served to give each lay person a solid perspective to this doctrine and to understand that it isn’t as simple as your preacher may have told you it was.The theologian/scholar/teacher/pastor should get this book in order to challenge their view and understanding of the key texts involved. An Amil/Postmil person will probably giggle at this book and mock the idea. That is okay, I do the same with their hermeneutical approach to the Old Testament and Revelation.

My original copy was falling apart. This copy was in good shape. Many mistakenly place this book under eschatology. This is a fine, easily understandable book on soteriology or salvation. It is simply a book for young Christians which leans a bit toward Calvanism, but is really pretty balanced between free will and predestination. The book was written at the time when Lindsey was working/traveling with Walter Martin and John Warwick Montgomery. The three had differing viewpoints and I'm relatively certain helped Lindsey keep a rather balanced book on Christian salvation ... excellent read.

This concept of having opposing views state their position and then give an opportunity to the others to rebut works well for me. Personally weary of being spoon fed so much poor theology I am of the mind this format should be used more often. Its also an opportunity to hear from people you may not previously have been aware of. I especially enjoyed Douglas Moo's honesty and all the three writers mutual treating of the others with respect was refreshing. You cannot help but learn from this book and the format!

This book was never a best seller because it wasn't contraversial or sensational. Sound doctrine is never sensational, and it is never a best seller! And that is what this book is: an outstanding presentation of salvation and fundamental Biblical doctrine in an easy to follow format. Hal Lindsey develops an understanding of what is wrong with the world (the sin nature of man), and he then develops an understanding of how Jesus Christ provided the remedy for what is wrong with the world. He builds four walls between man and God, and then shows how Jesus tears the walls down.To this day, I still present the Gospel using the outline provided in this book. Rather than going out of print, this book should be required reading in every Bible college in the country, and required reading by every Christian who speaks English.

Best book ever for explaining the Christian faith.

This is a re-publication of an earlier work. The added time has allowed the authors (2 returning and 1 new) to bring new research and fresh thinking to an age-old question: "When will the Lord return and establish justice on Earth and what is the Church's role?" The format allows the authors to not only present their cases for pre-tribulation rapture, pre-wrath rapture, and post-trib rapture, but also to interact with each other's arguments providing ample data for interested readers to develop their own belief in regard to End Times.

This book has excellent authors and a newer perspective and teaching on the Book of Revelation topics. I got this for an extra credit project in Seminary, and it is perfect for my need.

The best book Hal Lindsey ever wrote. One of my all-time favorites of thousands of books in my library.

If there's one preacher I adore, it's BBT. I started reading her books in the mid `90s, but somehow missed this one until now. It has the feel of someone rising to the challenges of middle age: too wise to be written by a 20-something, but not world-weary enough to come from the pen of a 60-something. The book is roughly divided into two halves: part one a collection of essays, and part two a series of sermons. The opening essay, entitled "A Church in Ruins," expresses the dilemma of living in a post-Christian culture, and does it better in ten short pages than I have in ten sermons. "The Tenth Leper" - the fourth sermon in the book's second half - demonstrates the author's amazing ability to support scriptural interpretation by sharing an unsentimental analysis of personal memories, and articulating an empathetic description of life experiences far different than her own. If you're a fan of BBT, don't neglect to read this text, which was her first book.

I would recommend this to lay people and pastors alike. Rev. Taylor makes it clear we who call ourselves Christians are all called to ministry. I really enjoyed her sermons at the end of the book. I particularly liked the prodigal son sermon. Easy to read too!

This uplifting book is about preaching and then some. Her chapter, Worship, is an excellent and poignant explanation of why we do what we do -- what part each of the liturgy serves.This is a great book for liturgical worship leaders and planners and for those learning to be.

It became immediately clear in the opening pages of "The Preaching Life" that Barbara Brown Taylor is a wonderful story-teller. In fact, much of the first half of the book consists of anecdotes from her life as a child, a new Christian, a seminary student, and a pastor. But she weaves an engaging tapestry of stories that kept my attention without ever seeming self-indulgent or trivial. Instead, those stories helped to frame the points that she was making about a host of important topics.However, the breadth of her conclusions and assertions in the first half of the book, though interesting and compelling, were also a source of some frustration. Because she covered such a wide swath of issues like her theology of calling, her understanding of corporate worship, and her approach to handling the Scriptures, it just didn't seem to me that she was dealing very specifically with the topic of preaching. And that's why I read the book, to learn about preaching. I wanted to know how she prepares her messages, how she handles her notes, what she focuses on during delivery, and other nuts and bolts about preaching. And she never even scratched the surface on those sorts of topics. Instead, she danced around at 30,000 feet and spent literally just a few pages talking in rather abstract terms about her philosophy of preaching. And the second half of the book is simply a collection of sermons, presumably some of her favorites.To be fair, there's nothing wrong with a general overview of pastoral ministry and some of its major themes and responsibilities. And what she offers is most helpful. She offers some decidedly non-evangelical ideas about the Bible that challenged my evangelical thinking. Her call to honesty in the pulpit and in pastoral ministry, in general, was refreshing. Just as William Willimon says on the front cover, "Her insight, poetic style, and good humor are a delight to read." That's totally true. But I felt like I was fooled by the title, since she didn't deal much at all with the specific act and art of preaching, beyond offering 13 examples of her messages. I wish the book had been titled "The Pastoring Life," in which case I would have been more prepared for what she had to offer.With this disappointment notwithstanding, it's still a good book. I don't necessarily agree with all of her theology (her notion of salvation seemed to be especially open-ended), and we certainly minister in different faith traditions of the American Protestant church (hers of the liturgical, Episcopal stream, mine of a more contemporary, evangelical stream). But she was sufficiently winsome in spirit and captivating in style that those differences seemed irrelevant. She challenged my thinking and assumptions in numerous ways and caused me to step back and reflect on how I approach pastoral ministry. Though I'll probably never preach sermons like hers (they are so short!!) and I didn't learn a lot of particulars about preaching, I suspect that I will ponder this book for quite some time and hope to revisit it somewhere down the road.

I loved this book. It is an easy read. It was for a preaching class and I enjoyed having an autographed copy.

This book was a magical read. The story of Siddhartha is so captivating and profound. A prince in search of truth and learning how to eliminate suffering. The four noble truths were quite interesting to read and digest. None of my family is Buddhist but after reading this, I am able to appreciate the teachings of Buddha in a secular way.

This book is well written in a voice that is both informative and entertaining. I am a Business Broker ($1M to $20M) and I give this book to potential clients that are interested in selling their business at our first meeting. At our second meeting after they have read the book, I find that they are better informed regarding the whole process and they have a better understanding of the evaluation process and the reasons that go into the price that they can expect for their company. I also represent buyers and I have found that after they have read the book they have a clearer and more informed understanding of the process and are at ease in making an informed decision on what they will pay. This book has saved me a lot of time in getting both parties to a sale/purchase point as Terry has covered points that they were aware of and many that they did not know, especially the logic that bankers use in determining their interest in funding the purchase.
