As a 'seasoned' RN I thought I knew all there is about teaching patients and caregivers - then I read Health Literacy in Nursing - and it opened my eyes to the huge gaps there is in my knowledge and understanding of health education. I would dare to say that its the same for other nurses. We have the knowledge and the desire to teach, but we rarely stop to think about how effective our teaching methods are, and if we are truly helping our patients.In this book Dr. Parnell providers clinicans with the tools to assess how they are communicating with patients, and chapters of practical knowledge of how we can do it better. This book should be part of every facilites continuing education program, and if you are looking for a Christmas gift for your favorite doctor or therapsit this is it! Although the book is wirtten for nurses, all health care professionals would benefit from reading it.

I loved this book! Dr. Terri Ann Parnell truly captures ‘the magnitude of the issue’ of health literacy and provides her audience with a wealth of information and resources. I found her real life case scenarios and step by step guidance extremely valuable. As a home care nurse and clinical instructor, her nursing strategies to improve communication have been very helpful to me and are easily applicable in all patient care settings. This book has enhanced both my practice and my students' clinical experiences. A terrific book for any nursing or health-professional curriculum!

Dr. Parnell wrote an excellent book on various aspects of health literacy. There is evidenc-based information on the effect of low health literacy on patient outcomes. She presents strategies for effective oral and written communication in every patient encounter. There are chapters on health literacy and unique populations: end-of life, pediatrics, mental health disorders and older adults. This book was in invaluable resource for my dissertation on health literacy.

This book was required for my BSN program, and it's pretty thorough.

I absolutely loved this book, I wish I had known about this book few months ago. When I was doing my assignments on Health Literacy in previous courses, I referred to several articles and resources like AHRQ website etc. When I read this book last week, I was like wow the author compiled all the research so well in this book and I wish I had read this book first. I am thankful to the author for organizing the book so well with different age group, different issues, different framework and models, providing excellent examples, and real life scenarios. I was particularly shocked when I read the scenario about 60 years old men who could not read to his grandkids and his wife did not know for 40 years of their marriage that he could not read. If his wife did not know then how can nurses assume patient understood the instructions given to them. I also, enjoyed the sections on verbal and written communications techniques and how I can make an impact on my organization by educating nurses on how to say things.

I recommend this book! Low health literacy is a costly issue that health systems largely overlook in healthcare as a factor in ED recidivism, later diagnoses, 30 day readmissions and poor patient outcomes. Moreover, patients understanding their diagnoses, treatments and care is a human rights issue and Terri Ann Parnell, DNP, MA, RN, FAAN is one of the national nursing leaders addressing the issue.

I'm a nursing student going for my second degree from a public health background and I felt like this is such an amazing resource especially being in NY with such diverse patients.Definitely reccomendation this to anyone studying medicine or nursing. Such a useful tool!

I absolutely loved this series -- it was excellent. I will so miss Hillary, as well as "visiting" the wonderful places in and around Oxford where she lived & worked. On a recent trip to England with my family, I even took a luncheon/tour cruise on a narrowboat when I visited Oxford .. all because I was so intrigued by Hillary's living on her narrowboat.Thank you, Faith Martin, for creating such a compelling character and writing a wonderful series of mystery books. I loved getting to know her!

I have read all 17 of the Hillary Greene series and feel like I am losing an old friend. I will miss the narrow boat, the canal and its flowers and wildlife, and the many snippets of life around the Oxford region.I was nonplussed in the early stages of this last book, missing the usual cold murder case(s) as a starting point. As it went along, I got much more involved in the way the storyline developed and was tying up loose ends. The resolution was quite satisfying, and as it all came together in Bristol I didn't want to put it down.An enjoyable conclusion to the series

Readers are still wondering what Jake is really up to — and if Hillary will accept Steven's proposal...I read along as Hillary and her team investigated the missing persons cold cases of several young women. Rollo, Steven and Hillary were also involved in looking for Jake's sister. I hoped the cold cases would be solved, in order to bring closure to the victims' families. Searching for Jasmine was a big part of the story, they did not know if she was dead or alive. We knew that Dale Medcalfe and Darren Chivnor were not nice people, but we did not know if they would be caught and punished.The last book in the DI Hillary Greene series was the best yet. It was full of suspense, which kept me turning the pages, and guessing to the very end. I have thoroughly enjoyed the DI Hillary Greene series and I am very sorry to see it end....AfterThoughts: I noticed that (the author of this series) Faith Martin has also written another series (Ryder & Loveday Novels) that I will have to take a look at. Thank you for entertaining me for seventeen wonderful books, Ms. Martin!

I hated to say goodbye to Hillary Greene. This book, the final in the series ties up all loose ends in a pretty bow, well almost. This certainly isn't the best book in the series, I felt the author was too busy finding ways to end plot lines. Hillary is a woman that we can all identify with, strong and vulnerable at the same time, who isn't afraid to say, yes I have baggage from a bad marriage. I have always loved her no fuss attitude to crime solving, her 'gut' instinct and the way she has nurtured her teams along. Will certainly miss her.

I hope this really isn't the end of Hillary's life. I have enjoyed reading the exploits of Hillary Green and her colleagues. I have always looked forward to reading the next book in the series. I will hope for more!

If this had been the first Hillary Greene book I read, I wouldn't have read another in the series. It just didn't enthrall me like every one of her others did. Also, there were a couple of scenarios that were vaguely similar to ones in previous books. I still enjoyed it but, compared to what I expected, it just didn't hold my interest. The ending was unsatisfying. That being said, I highly recommend all the others in the series and look forward to the new character coming out in December!

This book ends the extensive Hillary Green mystery series, which takes place in the environs of Oxford, England. I was hooked with the first book, Murder on a Canal. And several of the books end with a cliffhanger that keeps you reading.The stories are well told, with characters that you come to care about. But the writing doesn't rank with the best of British mysteries.I often got impatient with some of the formulaic dynamics and descriptions. I think Martin uses cut-and-paste descriptions of the main characters because they sound the same from book to book. The descriptions of people and places frequently struck me as overdone.With these caveats about some stylistic factors, I do recommend the series for pleasant recreational reading. It kept me coming back for the next one.

I feel this was a nice way to finish the series of books about Hillary. The mystery was interesting, but most importantly, as always, what interests me the most are the characters themselves and the decisions they take. It’s nice to learn about Jake’s past and, by the end, we get a glimpse of what the future holds for all the main characters.

I bought this book specifically to learn how to write a block device driver for CentOS 6.3 / RHEL 6.3Alas, Linux has moved on since the 3rd edition was printed (2009) and kernel functions used in the example code, like elv_next_request(), or macros like blk_fs_request(), have since been *removed* from Linux, rendering this book somewhat obsolete.For my driver, I need worker threads, and these can be implemented by means of workqueues.Workqueues are a very important tool for the driver writer - basically, they are the kernel equivalent of user-space pthreads. If you want your driver to do things in parallel, you pretty much have to use workqueues.Unfortunately, while there is a section on workqueues in this book, this section is rather short - just a few pages long.All in all, this book did not meet my expectations.

This book is not about how a driver works. It's about Linux-specific APIs to write drivers. Don't expect more than that.This book has a description of all you need to write drivers for Linux, assuming you have written drivers for other OSes or bare metal before.Beware of two things:- This book is not up to date with the fast-changing Linux kernel, however, most differences with recent kernels can easily be overcame;- The exact same content can be found online for free, legally. I just like having a paper copy for reference.

Maybe I'm just a dummy, but I found this book pretty hard going. I needed to modify a Linux USB device driver and honestly found the material on-line (including Greg's videos) more helpful. If you are prepared to read thru and need to become a Linux device driver expert, this is probably the book for you. I did not find it to be all that helpful as a quick reference.I hope some day to have time to go back and read it from cover to cover... then i might know one-tenth of what its authors know about Linux.

still the best Linux driver book, but very dated at this point, and on some DMA topics, inaccurate. Overall still the best. badly needs a new updated addition.

If you have "written" drivers before for just about any Unix, Android, VMS, or Windows system, you will find the book an easy read and informative. It will give you enough information to write a driver for your needs "if you understand how the device and its hardware interface operate (i.e. interrupts, DMA, critical/non-critical sequences, etc." In short you need to understand the hardware states to be successful with this book.

If you have experience writing drivers for microcontrollers or similar kinds of non-OS environments, this is the book you need. While certainly outdated, it gives you enough information to take your hardware experience and get a decent driver off the ground. Thankfully this book keeps a list of any out of date information since the book's publishing, and the only information about char drivers that was flat-out obsolete was a quick Google search away.I'm looking forward to the 4th edition, which is due out later this year. I'll definitely buy it to keep around as a reference.
