Instead of attacks on his enemies, shrill denunciations of political stands he despises, or praise of himself and his allies, John McCain offers us his version of King Lear. He offers the thoughts of a man who, toward the end of his life, does his best to see clearly, whatever may have come before.McCain is part of a diminishing cohort of conservatives devoted to American exceptionalism. For McCain, American exceptionalism is found foremost in our stance outwards, toward the rest of the world. He wants both American interests and American moral virtues to be served, and the chief obstacle he sees to this now is not Trump (whom McCain attacks surprisingly little, though he does attack House Republicans quite a bit) but Vladimir Putin. McCain sees Putin as, if not evil incarnate, certainly a very grave threat to us, to Europe, and more generally to the liberal democracy embodied in both. Quite a bit of the book is taken up with discussing this problem, and McCain has also written several pithy opinion pieces, such as recently in the Wall Street Journal, making the same points.The overlap between those who believe in American exceptionalism and those Republicans opposed to Trump is pretty significant, but really, they are different things. McCain thinks that America’s best years are not necessarily behind us, and while things may not be perfect, there is a deep reservoir of ability and possibility in America, however it is made up at any given time, including by immigrants. This was, for the most part, also Ronald Reagan’s view, and the split on the Right today is, in large part, a dispute about whether Reaganism is still viable today. While he does not spend any significant time talking about Reagan in this book, McCain is very much in the Reagan mold, although it’s not clear whether that really has a future in today’s Republican party.Of course, as he is the first to note, he himself probably doesn’t have much of a future on this earth. That knowledge focuses his thought, and he is comes across as a man of courage ready to exit the stage. Part of that courage, combined with clarity, comes out in his admitting that the Iraq War was a mistake. Oddly, that puts him on the same page with Donald Trump, the only Republican candidate (other than Rand Paul) who took the same position. But there is a lot to be said for honesty, and it helps the reader believe McCain legitimately holds the other positions he takes in this book.That said, as I say, it’s not like this book is a political polemic. Much of the rest of the book is taken up with reminiscences, mostly fond, and all interesting. The Restless Wave is not an attempt to settle scores; it is the last public words, in effect, of a lion in winter. As he says, “I have loved my life. All of it.” Whatever his faults may be, McCain is a giant of a man, formed by a past age, and we will not see his like again.

Later, Obama invited McCain for a private one on one meeting to discuss his rationale, and to solicit McCain’s rational.Both sides were respectful, firm and cordial. In the end, neither side were swayed, but both sides walked away with a better understanding of the other side.As for tone, the book is a good mixture of pride, regret and wistfulness. He was more than willing to acknowledge his shortcomings, which is one of the reasons I have always liked himIt’s the way I would hope our leaders would act. I wish he was our president.I highly recommend.

There’s so much wisdom in this book about choosing what’s right and honorable over party, over personal gain… Of choosing what is good for our country over what gains political clout or financial reward. Frankly, I don’t know that much about John McCain, but the sentiments in this book are truths. McCain is closer to death than ever before, and that’s a freeing place to be. He doesn’t need to worry about what we think of him or if he’ll get re-elected. He seems to be honest about errors and regrets, admitting to multiple misjudgments and mistakes that he’s made over the course of his life.This book isn’t getting the air or attention that Trump’s book did. Sadly. It’s not a fluff piece; it’s a long, hard read. I found myself crying more than once over the circumstances of an interrogation, a battle, the image a POW sewing an American flag inside his shirt… That’s what I take from this book the most, that John McCain is a patriot who values what that flag stands for, and he’d like us all to remember to be patriots above all.McCain would like us to behave with honor toward our countrymen, to our friends, and to our enemies. He’d like us to place human rights first, even when our lives are at risk: “I want to urge Americans, for as long as I can, to remember that this shared devotion to human rights is our truest heritage and our most important loyalty.”And I think that’s where this book really shines, where McCain reminds us that our country needs us to hold our government and leaders to the ideals America was founded upon. We cannot let fear change us. “We’re not always right. We’re impetuous and impatient, and rush into things without knowing what we’re really doing. We argue over little differences endlessly, and exaggerate them into lasting breaches. We can be selfish, and quick sometimes to shift the blame for our mistakes to others. But our country ‘tis of Thee.’ What great good we’ve done in the world, so much more good than harm.” And he points out where our country has harmed its reputation and its integrity by denying others their rights simply because they’re different or we think they’re the enemy. He points out what went wrong after 9/11 with the treatment of prisoners and what’s been done since to correct that. We can only pray that nothing like that ever happens again.He admits that we haven’t always been in the right, but that when we were wrong, it was because we were denying the rights of others, even to the point that things were happening so against the Geneva Convention that in McCain’s view, we were acting worse than the Vietnamese acted toward him and his fellow POWs. That’s pretty sad, when we do worse than those we hold up as despicable.“Will we act in this world with respect for our founding conviction that all people have equal dignity in the eyes of God and should be accorded the same respect by the laws and governance of men? That is the most important question history ever asks of us. Answering in the affirmative by our actions is the highest form of patriotism, and we cannot do that without access to the truth. The cruelty of our enemies doesn’t absolve us of this duty. This was never about them. If you want to find out how the tracking of turtles is art, or how Lawrence Weiner came to write phrases on walls as his art work or simply how the synergy of people working with ideas about process as an artmaking technique came to rule this is an valuable piece of first hand reporting. Looking to explain Sol Le Witt to my college students on his recent death this book gave me samples of his interactive drawings they could try.

I first read this book about twenty years ago. I am glad to see that there is a new edition. It had a major impact on my development as an artist. The author discusses the trend called "conceptual art" which flowered in the time period mentioned in the title (late 60's through early 70's). These artists rejected the craft of art and the creation of objects themselves seeking instead something more fundamental. Ms. Lippard calls this "resonance" and uses descriptions of various pieces to explore this concept. Though "conceptual art" has long since passed by, the analysis in this book is still current and applies more than ever in our "post-modernist" period.

Definitely a page turner. I grew up listening to Wendy on the radio and I was surprised that her book really revealed a lot. She was upfront about her own story. So surprised to find that when it all comes down to it she was and still is quite a loner. She doesn't seem to have any close friends. Say whatever you want to say about her but no one can deny that she has a great work ethic and she has more than succeeded in her career. I won't judge her choices because I respect her honesty. There was a point in the book that you could tell she was talking directly to her husbands side piece. Lol

I really like Wendy Williams so I was looking forward to reading her story. The writing is amateurish and inarticulate and she failed to included photos to support the descriptions that she provides. She describes being fat as a kid, I can't picture it, she describes being really "hot" looking when she went out, I can't picture it, she describes being super skinny while on drugs, I can't picture it, she describes working in the radio station--no photos, I can't picture it, she describes her family growing up, no photos, I can't picture it. Failing to include pictures really diminishes the interest that this book could have had.

When subscribed to Wendy Williams’ YouTube channel, every now and then during Hot Topics she mentions past drug use, miscarriages, and a few other things. However, she never goes into full detail. So, when she mentioned this book I decided to buy it and read it, and it reminded me that Talk Show Wendy and Radio Host Wendy are two different people. In this book, she is Talk show Wendy, or the Wendy during her new comedy stand up specials. Meaning, cursing is consistent, as well as the use of the "N" word but you can see that despite how raw she is, her foundation is wholesome.For with mentions of her upbringing and you seeing how that led to her “futuristic vision,” ambition, and even morals, you can tell that despite the language, and some of her decisions, she is very much traditional. Though I must say, if you put this beside Janet Mock’s “Redefining Realness,” and Maya Angelou’s biography, it does sometimes seem like the book is willing to go there, but in the pursuit of being raw, it loses any sense of eloquence. This is despite Wendy sometimes speaking of very personal matters and generally having the type of narrative like you was her niece or nephew. Though all things considered, I don’t think most people want suburban Wendy. They want Queen of Radio Wendy being as messy with her personal life as she is with others. Something she certainly delivers on.I will say though, outside of a rape incident, if you are a regular watcher of Wendy’s show, you are not going to probably learn anything new here. Nor is there significant enough detail to warrant buying this book and not renting or borrowing it.

Tell all, but doesn’t name names. Read it in two days, was an easy fun read!

I love her brutal honesty. Would prefer less cussing and I'm from NY with a potty mouth. Very Real, true to who Wendy appears to be. The writing style is how I would imagine she really speaks amongst her peeps. She tells some tough stuff about her life. However, she does it in a way the reader is empathetic without wanting to put the book down. Not easy to do. Truly impressed with here work ethic. Definitely read if you are having trouble conceiving you are not alone. Good job!

After reading Don Lemon's boringly written memoir, I was pleasantly surprised by this engaging book. Good job, crazy lady.

As intelligent as Wendy is, this book was poorly written and redundant in the fact she kept saying the same things in multiple chapters and spoke as an uneducated hoodrat about her life. It is written in conversational form as though she's talking to her homegirl and is repititous throughout. This was not a good autobiography. Not a good read. Disappointed. I expected better from her because I know that outside of her ratchet radio talk, she's educated and could mingle and converse with the best of the intellects of this world.

The ideas seem disorganized but, the story is interesting and intriguing. It was nice being able to get an idea of some of the struggles miss Wendy experienced. True fans like me love it as a cute little something dedicated to our love for Wendy.

And when you do complain, make sure to stop and say “what if”… what if the XYZ thing isn’t bad, but it’s for the better or it’s for good.This book is straight to the point, can be read in a few hours and is good for either work or personal life negativity issues.I wouldn’t say this is the best book by Jon Gordon but it is worth the read. A powerful lesson that we should all try to incorporate into our lives, unfortunately it is also one of the most difficult things to do in our modern society. Our society is set up to complain about every little thing and sometimes we do not even realize that we are complaining as it has become part of gathering together with friends or just having a normal conversation with someone at a coffee shop. Should we strive to not complain? Yes. Is it a practical book to follow and apply into your life? No. It is like exercise you know you should do it almost every day, but then you realize life does not allow for it to happen as often as you like. Overall it is a good read with a very good positive message. I do believe that students in school would benefit greatly from this book and maybe taught as part of a curriculum.

This book was and is an amazing book. I use to complain but I find myself now if I'm complaining I reroute my thoughts so I won't complain. My mother is a chronic and severe complainer I think I will let her read my book or buy her one of her own. I pray she's open minded about this book it has helped me so much. I highly recommend this book.

You'll see this review for all the Jon Gordon books I read. I actually bought "Training Camp" first, because I wanted my daughter (competitive soccer player) to work on her mental game. I read it first to be sure it was appropriate for her age (15). Well, I loved it! I found many helpful things for me. I was getting in a rut at my job and after looking inside myself, it seemed as though I was always angry and frustrated. I reached a point where I decided to change my outlook on everything, and whatever happens externally, happens. After Training Camp, I read the entire Jon Gordon series. They are very easy reading, regardless of age level (teens and up). People might complain that his books are too basic, but if you don't need a PHD to understand something, why write it like you need one? Each book has very simple steps and/or lessons to move you in the right direction. They didn't all work for me, but they all changed my outlook. Great stuff!

The No Complaining Ruled helped me move from a more pessimistic person to a more positive thinking, see each situation for what it is and be able to move on and make things better type of person. If you're willing, this book will change your perspective of things and change the way that you see things and act on a daily basis. I highly recommend The No Complaining Rule to anyone looking to make positive change in their life or anyone looking to improve their vision of things!

This is a really good book. I bought it for my wife but she let me read it as well. It is all about dealing with adversity without sinking into a death spiral of complaining and negative attitudes.

Overall I enjoyed the book. It was a quick and easy read, and it made me think more about the impact complaining can have on an organization. Sometimes we get so used to complaining being a part of every day life that it is hard to see where we can improve. The author did a good job of pointing out in what situations people typically complain and how to overcome this bad cycle. However, I did find the book to be a bit too simplistic and repetitive. From an HR student's perspective, I would have liked to see more about the challenges she faced when trying to implement this philosophy within her company. I am sure that in reality it would be much more difficult to change someone's lifestyle completely. That being said, it is still a very interesting concept, and I would definitely recommend this book for anyone hoping to improve their negativity for themselves or within their organization.

This book helps put life in perspective. A gentle reminder of how weshould be more appreciative of all that God has done for us and how we must choose how to respond when life doesn't always turn out as planned.

Normally, I would not have purchased this book because of the price, but the reviews caught my attention and I agree with one that said it was worth the money. My husband has been diagnosed with early dementia and I have been fretting over losing everything we have if I eventually have to place him in a Nursing Home. This book helped me to understand how Medicaid works, which is truly something to avoid IF you can. Over and over the author advises that you cannot get through the maze without a good Elder Law Attorney. I had already seen an Elder Law Attorney and he had immediately set up a Durable Power of Attorney and new Wills. That is supremely important as stated in this book. The Attorney had also advised me to have him apply for Medicaid IF we ever needed it. He said it would cost us money but that he would save us SO much in the long run. After reading this book, I understand what he was saying.... and I see how important it is. I have been so stressed about the "five year look-back" thing and learned that it applies to "gifts". Now I know there are many other techniques that the law will allow that can be implemented at the last minute. The Attorney will know how to get through that maze. What a relief. I hope we never have to go the Medicaid or Nursing Home route - but if we do - this book has eased my stress level considerably.

This book was so helpful. I had a parent who was denied coverage by DHS for Medicaid. Using the info from this book, I educated myself and requested a Fair Hearing with our state. With the application for the Fairing Hearing, I sent a 2 page letter (using the information I gleaned from this book) outling the issues I had with the denial my parent received. Prior to the Fair Hearing, an attorney from the state called me to let me know they were reversing DHS' decision and my parent would now be covered. The Fair Hearing was no longer needed. I am so thankful for the authors and this valuable source of information.

My dad had a stroke. He survived and we had so many questions regarding his care and finances. We had no idea where to start. Someone recommended this book. It was expensive for a book but I needed answers and direction. Since reading the book I have a basic grasp of definitions, terminology, and rights that come into play. I am hiring an elder attorney to further advise us. But you will save money if you enter the lawyers office with knowledge of what this book offers.My dad isn't extremely wealthy but has saved enough to be comfortable and we want to make his money go the furthest and in my opinion, this book pointed us in the right direction. We ordered similar books that deal with the same subject but were inferior to this one by a long shot.

The book is expensive. The book is so informative, I soon forgot what I paid for the book. This information is just what I needed, all gathered into one book. Clearly written in terms most people can understand, with examples as well. The chapter titles are clear, with references inside each chapter. This book is a larger paperback. I like this, so I can use a highlighter and paperclips. Now, I know, which way I want to go, where to check on things, and what kind of lawyer I need. Thanks again.

My wife bought this book because one of her aunts was showing signs of dementia and her husband could not take care of her. He had his own physical problems. This book helped us plan for the day the Aunt would be placed in a nursing home and apply for Medicaid.Note: Most of Medicaid is regulated by Federal law. However, some states have their own little rules and requirements. At least this helped my wife know what questions to ask after reading this book.

Can't help being complicated and a bit ambiguous, since the laws regulating Medicaid long term care qualifications are subject to many interpretations, and are administered by each individual state, whose rules dictate not only a variety of limits, but interpretations, as well. All in all, a pretty good primer for those who are married, and therefore must prepare for the probable expense of nursing home care, and the devastating fiscal consequences for those who don't understand the basic means to protect their assets from being rapidly depleted.

I have absolutely no knowledge on this subject. What I have read here was informative and did answer some of the questions I had and let me know there were other questions I needed to ask. I checked on a few comments validity with my lawyer and he agreed with them, which is a recommendation of its own. This book let me know what I need to be aware of and what to have in place for the future. This was purchased with a couple of other books on the same subject and I recommend all of them.

This little pamphlet is entertaining and highly educational. It gives suggestions for ways to "talk dirty" and why it is an integral part of lovemaking since our erotic focus is also on what we hear from our mates. As a somewhat shy person, I appreciated the permission that the booklet gives to explore this area of the sexual relationship. Short, concise, to the point and very informative, I would recommend this highly !

40 pages, double spaced very large print, way too costly. Use your imagination, let your inhibitions go, and don't waste your money on this one.

Interesting - a few new examples that turned my hubby on!!

I'm glad I decided to download this. After reading it, I have gained some insight as to "spice things up". I feel by having a healthy, happy and open sex life with your partner is key.

This book is geared towards people who are brand new to the concept of talking dirty. It has a lot of good ideas to help you break out of your shell if you are shy. However, if you are not brand new to talking dirty and are looking for some psychological games to play in bed, or some creative ideas to build on basic dirty talk, you should look elsewhere. By no means am I a pro, but I did not get more than a couple of new words out of this book.

In actuality, this "book" is about 4 average type written pages, and can be read in about 4-5 minutes. Simple lists of phrases grouped by before, during, after, etc. If you need basic ideas then this list of phrases such as, "bend over," "spread yourself," etc, would be good to study beforehand. I think it was worth no more than a dollar. Don't expect psyco/linguistic brain/body science.
