Another great story! 4 year old lives these books

my daughter (who is 6 years old ) loves these books bought the whole series. We read each one every night

My granddaughter requested this book before bedtime many times on her visits. Even after 2 years, it's one of her favorite picks; only, she reads it herself now! Good use of repetition for budding readers. They will also enjoy trying to keep track of the busy little monkeys in the fun illustrations.

I have read other books in this series with my three year old daughter, but this one really takes the monkey counting thing to the next level. Some monkeys go away, other monkeys join the group, and before you know it your little one is learning to add and subtract without a formal lesson! I always had to preface the book by telling my daughter that of course kids should never go where a grownup cannot see them in the store.

Kids love it!

Cute a bit longer than the others in the series.

Good reading to share with your child in a splendid afternoon.

Las 4 estrellas son por que a pesar de su excelente contenido tiene una pesima traducción al idioma español. Creo que tienes que ser bilingüe para entender que es lo que el traductor intenta decir. Por ejemplo entre unos de tantos; astros del cine, refiere a Movie Stars; Positivamente refiere a estar seguro de algo. Ya lo leerán ustedes pero si lo volvería a comprar. Y finalmente es un libro escrito hace muchos años, pero facilmente lo puedes auto ajustar a nuestra época. La cortesía, la honestidad, y la educación nunca pasan de moda. A mi me ha dado mucho resultado puesto que ya aplique sus enseñanzas.

It's very hard to read. I bought this book from other publishers and I'm very happy with them. It is not the content of this book, is the way it was published. I don't recommend at all this product. Buy this book from another publisher.

I must admit, when I first bought this book, I didn't know when I would read it. Thankfully, it only took me a few days to finally begin reading it. A few pages in, and I was surrounded by children playing "bride-bride". Of course, this was all in my head because of the incredible imagery that was included in every page of this book. At first I thought the chapters were long, but in reality, I read through them so quickly because I was intrigued with every sentence. I could see so much of myself in little Arjie. I would cheer him on, tell him not to do this or that. My heart felt for him and every emotion he felt. Very few books have done this for me. I'm grateful that I came across this book. Well written and a quick read that left me asking for more! Well done!

This is a great little book that was recommended to me by Amazon based on similar purchases. It's a fairly quick read that I was able to finish during a layover at the airport. The book starts off with the main character, Arjie, playing "bride-bride" with his cousins at his grandparents' house. The author does a really good job of expressing the innocent thoughts of a child trying to discover his identity in the midst of a civil war. Didnt know much about Sri Lanka before picking up this book, but I was surprised to find so many aspects of Arjie's family life relatable to my own childhood as an Indian immigrant. My only complaint about this book is that many chapters feature a love story with a satisfying (albeit tragic) ending, up until the ending. Wished there was at least the same amount of sentimentality put into that final chapter as there was in the first and second.

A beautifully crafted, highly original novel which tells an moving story of waking to love and secuality in a world of conservative values. What is so dazzling is the authors ability to combiine in this novel a highly sensitive understanding of psychology with an impressive overview of Sri Lanka's society and its recent, violent history. He never loses the personal touch but never is judgmental. He writes with warmth, understanding, precision and sensitivity. A brilliant work blending high quality literary ability with an understanding of people and of history. I loved it!

Always interesting to read how youth cope with an issue outside the square and this book was no exception. Sri Lanka is a very traditional country but thanks to this book and my travel experiences there, there is room for those that don't fit the traditional mould. This is an extremely personal account of what it is like to be gay in Sri Lanka without this being the central focus. Well worth reading. It does get a bit impersonal at the end when the writer becomes enmeshed in the war. However, very insightful.

I was led to Shyam Selvadurai's book via the collection of South Asian fiction he edited, called: Story Wallah. The first chapter of Funny Boy appeared in that anthology as "Pigs Can Fly." It was towards the end of Story Wallah, and I fell in love with the voice and the story so much that I did not want it to end, so I looked in the back of the book to see what else he had written. When I saw the title of his novel, Funny Boy, I knew it had to be the same narrator, and hence the story would go on.I was not disappointed. The first-person narrator of Funny Boy, Arjie, continues with his tale of growing up in Sri Lanka. While he begins his life in a kind of magical world as the young boy who prefers to play with girls, playing "bride-bride" instead of joining the boys playing ball in the field, he quickly loses his bearings because the world cannot actually tolerate such difference. Two threads of the story twine together tightly in this novel: Arjie's search for happiness as his awareness grows, and the growing racial unrest that returns to his country. Just as Arjie is being torn apart inside, his country is being torn apart on the outside, and the young man looking back on growing up in Sri Lanka makes a vivid connection between the two experiences.Because I read a lot of memoir, and this seemed so real (and is likely at least partly autobiographical fiction), I felt at times that the narrative character was obviously manipulated in order to hear things he otherwise wouldn't have--he was always spying, listening through doors, etc., privy to things that a child normally might not hear, see, think or remember later for the telling. Still, the story is so beautifully told, and the themes so important that I can set aside my critic's observation and recommend the book to anyone who is interested in reading about a boy's self-discovery strained by the dangerous clash of the Tamils and the Sinhalese.

I really enjoyed point of view of this book being the younger son. So often, stories are told from an “adult” point of view. This book was not that way at all.

With my Instant Pot, making dinner is a lot less stressful. And this cookbook has been an amazing help! Recipes are really easy to follow. And the results are delicious. My favorite is the Cheesy Tuna Penne with Edamame (healthier mac & cheese with texture from the edamame). Harissa Chicken Stew was great, too.

Has recipes for just about everything. Plan on stocking up on onions, low-sodium broth and no-salt-added diced tomatoes. Found a couple dozen recipes that work well for our taste and interest. Some of the recipes don't really need the Instant Pot, but you can cook them there just as well as on the stove, so they *do* work. Highly recommend this cook book. Also, look into using some Morton Light Salt for some of the extremely low salt recipes that could benefit from the added flavor. A quarter teaspoon adds some good flavor and is a total of 290mg and most of the recipes have at least 4-6 servings. So, taking something from 100mg a serving to 175mg a serving is a reasonable compromise to kick the flavor up a notch.

Most pressure cooker books that have so called healthy recipes have either yucky tasting foods or foods that you need to purchase that you probably would not normally purchase. This book has some really great easy to make recipes and are healthy for you to eat! I sure hope there are more of this book perhaps a series would be great!!

After a recent health scare and loss of a loved one to heart disease, we were on the look for heart healthy recipes. Well, several internet searches later, we found many recipes and diets labeled as "heart healthy", but by who?! We opted to trust the American Heart Association and we are glad we did! This book has great recipes!

I would have given this cookbook 5 stars except the directions are in a lighter ink. It is hard to read under low light conditions or in my case older eyes. Wish it was darker. Will try the recipes soon.

This is one of the most excellent books on the market. I have been a bible study teacher and mentor for decades and I read voraciously and I would put this book on my top ten reading list of all time. But I do want to put out a mild warning. The first half of this book depressed me to no end because it underscored my life so clearly. All the choices I'd made up until 50 were playing out very differently than I had imagined and that was a very difficult pill to swallow. It IS hard to accept how we've lived; the consequences of choices; the great disappointments of life. Those things are real, and hard to face. But the second half of the book was tremendously helpful in accepting the former and giving a good map to where to go from here.I ended up leading a bible study with this book and all the women had the same experience I had - the first half was difficult, but worth the read.

I want to write out the outset that this book (along with "The Holiness of God" by R. C. Sproul; "Heaven" by Peter Kreeft; "Emotionally Healthy Spirituality" by Pete Scazzero and "Prodigal God" by Tim Keller) has been one of the top paradigm shifting books I have read to help me change my thinking - radically. I also, have to write that I do not have the skill or ability to describe or recommend this book with the superlatives it deserves. I can only write that if you are struggling with "mid-life crises" this book is absolute MUST reading and I'm confident that you will be much better off by reading it.All that written - on with the review. I have personally battled depression my whole life. I am a perfectionist and have had to learn to "chill out" over the years, because I have found that things break, plans don't work out the way you thought they would, and God is sovereign and I'm overwhelmingly NOT!In this book Paul Tripp brilliantly exegetes reality and brokenness in this fallen world in which we live. He gives dozens of illustrations from the Bible, and men and women in the 21st century to point out the various manifestations of why so many people struggle with the mid-life years. I have read the book twice (and I'm certain - I will read it again) because so many of the stories are about my own struggles. He brings out in the open so many thoughts, and questions that many of us wrestle with and answers them with penetrating insight, theological depth, and practical life giving grace.This book is not an easy read. I think the more you struggle with life (especially in your middle years) - the harder it will be to read. I found myself crying, and physically aching as I read some of the stories and analysis from Tripp's pen. However, in the final analysis the book leads you to a fresh new start and brilliantly applies the gospel to your life. Brimming with hope - Tripp shows very practically how God's purposes and plans for your life will be fulfilled, no matter what you have done, or how you feel at this stage of life.I have been immensely helped in so many ways from reading this book. Let me list just five:1) It was just flat out helpful to have so many of the things I've thought and felt be identified and addressed so insightfully by the author - in other words - "I'm not crazy" - there are actually millions of people that have gone and are going through what I am during this stage of life - and they are still trucking!2) I learned to appreciate the realities of God's design for humanity and how His plans will culminate - my story is a part of the fulfillment of the Great Story of the Bible. Tripp helps you to see that nothing in your life is wasted, and that Christ's victory on the cross is also your ultimate victory as well. Your failure has been nullified by Christ's Person and Work on your behalf. We have fallen, but He has picked us up. We have failed, but He has succeeded, and ultimately everything will be made new and perfect again - forever!3) I was so encouraged over and over again. Sometimes I feel like a major failure in every area of life: as a Christian, pastor, provider, husband, father, taking care of myself physically, and the list can go on and on. However, Tripp is able to bring out the positive realities that result from recognizing our weaknesses and how that makes God's grace such a wonderful reality for us.4) I felt like I got to sit down with Jesus as I read this book. Perhaps one of the most helpful things he did in the book is show how much we are like the people in the Bible (even though we think we are not). The author has such a good grasp of theology, the Bible, and what God and people are like - that almost everything he writes is penetrating the deepest recesses of your soul. I think Paul Tripp is very wise, because he has a very intimate relationship with Jesus and brings that relationship to the reader in the book. It made me want to know God more intimately, the Bible more than I do, and to walk more closely with Jesus.5) It made me even more excited about Heaven and to live for that which will last forever. It made me want to live more simply, for others, and for those things that will please my Master - Jesus. Like many of the Psalms - I started reading the book in a discouraged and depressed state, and by the end of the book I was able to praise my Lord with a smile on my face, and with joy in my soul.I feel like this review is rubbish compared to how GOOD this book actually is. I can only say that this book will help you to understand your sin, need of a Savior, and need for His grace more than you ever have before. Also, that His grace is MUCH greater than all your sin. One more thing - anyone at any life stage can benefit tremendously from this book - you don't have to be struggling through mid-life to benefit from this book. Get this book, get copies to give away, and grow in His amazing grace. Thanks, Paul Tripp - and I hope that many more people will read and benefit from this book - I sure have!

Having passed the 50-year mark in 2013, I am well into what is called "middle age." For the first 20 years of my life, the focus was growth and education. In my twenties, I began settle down into marriage and family, and in my thirties all the way through to my forties there was never a dull moment raising three kids and serving at church. So, now what? In a Christian culture that stresses the need to "focus on the family," what happens when the family is gone? We can feel useless and lose the joy of our salvation as we mourn the loss of what we had in the past. Lost in the Middle by Paul David Tripp is an easy to read, practical book that helps us see this is a season of life in which we can be more spiritually productive than ever before. I especially liked the chapter titled, "Golden Calves." God calls women in Proverbs 31:25 to "laugh at the time to come." This book will help those who feel lost to see the joy that awaits those who have a biblical perspective on any stage of life, but especially with respect to aging.

God has been, and continues, using Paul Tripp to teach and to counsel the church at large through his books. If you are living in the middle years of life this is a must read. If you are a middle aged man in a crisis of faith or going through confusion about the next half of your life.....buy it now and read it ASAP! The teaching is based strongly on the Bible, thus it is truth that really applies to all people of all ages. It will be of benefit for anyone to read, regardless of their age. My favorite thought in the book, and I summarize....The middle years best equate with the season of autumn. Autumn is the season of harvest. Whatever seeds you sowed in the spring and summer of your life will be seen in the "harvest-time" of your life. How truly profound is such a thought.

Paul David Tripp has an insightful, but humble grasp of theology, and can take the theology and distill it into practical applications and attitudes. His thesis here and in his other works is that if we as believers (this book is for believers) focus our attentions on God and His ways, then the "crisis" of middle age is no crisis, in point of fact, it's a blessing because it will reveal elements of who we are that are ungodly, and once identified, they may be addressed.
