I downloaded Nomad Found as a free book from Amazon. The clean, sparse writing style really struck a chord with me-- I simply enjoyed the post-apocalypse story and the quirky characters. Terry Henry (TH) is a fun protagonist to follow and I love the way he thinks and reacts-- and adding Char was a great touch, adding unpredictability to the plot line. This is a series to follow, I know I will be.

I'm a big fan of the Kurtherian Gambit series and I have been watching as these additional stories in the universe were hinted at. So as soon as I saw this one available I had to read it. It was great!The story follows Terry, a former merc and marine that pops up in the main story arc a few times. The world has fallen apart and things are just settling into the new normal, a world that has lost almost everything. Terry has finally stopped mourning what he lost and is out to try and make amends. He finds his chance in a town of 100 that is clinging to the last scraps of civilization. Now they all have a chance, maybe, but they're not the only ones in the forsaken lands. The were's that survived and others that have no respect for honor call this new world home too . . .

As I've said in other reviews, I am not generally a fan of either post-apocalyptic or dystopian, but d**m this is good.If you like either of those genres, you should like (or love) this.If you are reading the Kurtherian Gambit books, you'll likey will also like this.Caught me off the top, flowed well.Recommended

This is a spin-off series from TKG universe. I have enjoyed these books so much I am averaging one a day - read one, buy one, and begin again! I very much like the honor and the selflessness of the main characters in these books, and the way these characters support each other and all of humanity. I highly recommend this series as well as any and all TKG books to those who enjoy seeing wrongs righted and humanity as a whole uplifted. I also enjoy that Akio, Eve and Yuko make appearances in this book and series. Again, highly recommend this entire series.

An excellent addition to the Kurtherian Gambit Series. I look eagerly and impatiently look forward to the next one in the series, so write faster!! Also, great to find new books from a fellow Alaskan.

I enjoy TKG series and try to follow all the spin offs. I don't remember Terry from the main series but, that doesn't matter. Great main characters and good action. Adding a strong female co-lead follows TKG story line. Book is a bit faster paced but an enjoyable read. Can't wait for next in series and hope it too is on KU

As the title of the review says, a worthy effort and good read keeping the KG series running. Terry has grown a bit despondent with the WWDE but what can you expect with the world fulfilling its own self fulfilling prophecy? Now he has returned to make a difference again. It will be fun to see where Char and Terry take their relationship.Don't miss this story.

Unimpressive. I had to use this for a class, or I wouldn't have spent the money.The exterior looks like a magazine or journal, making the casual observer think that the content is similarly up-to-date. For example, the chapter on data spends a couple pages vaguely describing the benefits a business may derive from relational database technology, such as scalability and performance, and gives an example of a website that received, on average, 7 million hits per day in its first year of operation. Admittedly, this is a business-oriented text, so my expectations for technical details were already low. But there was no similar discussion, not even a paragraph, of non-relational database technology, which is by no means new, but is used on sites doing more traffic per hour as the listed example got in a day. Facebook, SalesForce.com, eBay, Google, etc. -- why not spend a page talking about the information technology they find vital. Worse, the listed source for this information was the homepage of a news & commentary website, and a search on that site turned up nothing related to the claims made in the text.Another frustration is that the author's unjustified biases sit alongside actual information with no clear distinction. The discussion of the systems development lifecycle explains the waterfall methodology in depth, closing with "[it] no longer serves as an adequate systems development methodology in most cases" and touts agile methodology as an alternative. But then the text sweeps through RAD, XP, RUP, and scrum with no case studies or examples showing actual improvement, and fails entirely to mention problems that organizations have had either during the transition to agile methods or after some time using them. Clearly this is not an objective presentation, but will the business-oriented students who go on to become MIS managers realize this without having had the chance to experience the pitfalls and triumphs of both sorts of methodologies on their own? It would be great if the textbook for a information technology management course could spare them from having to learn by experience, but this will not be that textbook.In short, plenty of good information is available in this text, but for a balanced perspective, seek elsewhere.

I got an A in the class that required this textbook, but only because I seriously went the extra mile in my studying. This book was a tedious read because every chapter is only 20-25 pages long, but every chapter also introduced 50-80 vocab words. By the end of the book, it had introduced about 700+ vocab words, some of them so briefly that they were explained with one sentence and then never again mentioned. The other issue is that there aren't any vocab lists at the end of the chapter so you have to carefully go through each page if you're trying to make a vocab list to review with. There were also many vocab terms in the book that didn't have a definition in the glossary and several typos throughout the book. I also used McGH connect with this book and that was also tedious. 100-120 review problems for each chapter and this still didn't seem to help you learn the terminology because there was so much vocab that most of the terms were still only reviewed with one question.

E-Book was exactly what I needed for my CIS course, it was accessible on all of my devices and the tools in kindle really allow you to take incredible notes and make flash cards! Ctrl+F is useable in it, very helpful. Also, the book itself is a great read, I learned a lot!

It never ceases to amaze me the price for college textbooks. This book only has about 250 pages and it costs over $50.00! Really! As for the content, it works with my class and was required reading.This book looks like a large magazine. Even the pages are magazine weight and type. At first I thought I ordered the wrong book because it doesn't look like the typical textbook.

Required text for an IS class. Pretty light read for a text book though. Almost like a trade magazine.

Creates a firm foundation for business systems.

If only it would have had the access code that I needed for my class. Sadly I will have to return it. Best to buy this book somewhere else if you need an access code.

This book is limited to 2 devices, about which I didn't find out until my downloads to my ipad were blocked!Amazon tech support could see the 2 device settings, but I didn't find it in the product description. grrr

Along Wooded Paths is the second in the series by Tricia Goyer. Set in the Big Sky country of Montana, Mariana has been introduced to a new way of thinking of God, as well as questioning whether wearing a kapp & apron & following the old traditions was required to get to heaven. Ben has taught her many things about God that she never considered before. Aaron comes to visit & hopes to bring Mariana back to Indiana. Mariana's heart has gone to Ben but because he is not Amish, she chooses Aaron. Recommended to those who enjoy the genre. Best to read the series in order.

Well, this has to be one of the better Amish books I've read, although the indecision of Marriana was a bit annoying as it took up the entire book. Personally I think she made the right decision, but my heart went out to the other all the way through.Marrianna has left Indiana to be with her family, leaving her betrothed and meeting another man not of her faith.Two men love her...one an Englisher who was a musician getting away to the woods of Montana to learn a quieter way of life, and the other an Amish man who has loved her practically as long as he can remember. She cares for both but seems to be passionate about one, and can only think of what it would be like with him.One day the Amish beau arrives in Montana to see if he can rekindle what they had, or find out for sure if she has left their life behind.Good story.

She is amazedat how well the Amish here in there small community get along with the English. They socialize a lot more together than than her old community she grew up in. They is even a prayer group of English and Amish that come together once a week to pray. Marianna still strugles with her feeling for Aaron Zook. The man she was suppose to marry. Marianna has strong feelings for Ben an Englisch. She struggles with them. She knows how much it would hurt her family if she left the Amish life for Ben. After all the hurt they have been through. Losing two daughters in a buggy accident and her brother Levi walking away from the Amish life. Aaron isn’t happy about Marianna working in the store being around the Englisch. THis story keep me guessing to the very end. It is a must read book. 5 stars

It picks up right where the other left off, and I got sucked in and couldn't put it down. Its a good, wholesome read, not like the other Amish novel books I had read (in a good way) and just all around very enjoyable. I can't wait until the next book is out. I will say that sometimes the way some of the characters speak (mainly the "Englisch" ones) is a little overly-romantic. Specifically one of the lead male characters talks a little old fashioned. People that age don't really speak in that manner, but its not something that bugged me enough to put the book down and not read any further. It just made me not really picture the book taking place in modern times. I did love it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good Christian based Amish fiction book.

I read all three books in this series and enjoyed each one. We visited an area where there were many Amish in the community. I knew they were an extremely industrious people, women working in their own flower and vegetable gardens, husbands and sons working the fields, riding around in horse drawn buggies down hot country roads, but never had any idea of how strongly they felt about the privacy of their religion and the actual strength of their community. The book helped me understand more of what they feel as a people and how fiercely they protect their way of life. I mean fiercely in their hearts commitments, not fiercely like in violence.

I enjoyed the book but not the outcome! Spoiler alert...I was rooting for Marianna to make a different choice. But the book had many thought provoking concepts. Even though I enjoy reading Amish books it's hard for me to understand their ways and how they seclude themselves and eschew evangelism. But I do love this author and will continue to read her books!

FALL PREVENTION was a good book. It reminded me of all the routines I did with my PHYSACAL THEROPSTS over the years. I have MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS and I am 61 so I fall a lot. I will use the book to help train my support group on how to avoid falls.Also retrain my self.

This book is definitely a winner. Having spent a lot of time working with an older population, I'm always searching for a manual that clients will actually enjoy reading on their own. Oftentimes, coverage of this material is dry at best, which is unfortunate, because it is such an important topic. However, the team of Davies and Scully seem to write with the reader in mind--there are cute illustrations, it's easy to navigate, and the reader really learns a lot of simple exercises and techniques. I would definitely recommend it as a must read for anyone who has ever felt concerned for theirs--or a loved ones--balance, etc.

DO NOT READ THE INTRODUCTION!!I would give this story 5 stars, but the introduction ruined the story by spoiling every secret on the first page, so I have to rate this book a 4 star.The story was gripping, unique, and quite dreamy. I had to know what would happen on each page. I will admit that I was rather upset with having read part of the introduction, because unfortunately, everything the author intended to be a twist had already been revealed to me.

It’s amazing how Shirley Jackson can take the everyday and twist it somehow into a subtle and creepy tale. There’s an element of Gothic in her last book, We Have Always Lived in the Castle. What I also believe Jackson can accomplish so impeccably in her writing---and through her characters and their situations—is leaving an element of subjectivity and the “unknown” within. The reader is often left seeing various pieces of characters and context, but often must make their own conclusions and put some pieces together. To me, that makes for a remarkable reading experience.The basis for this novel is a family, the Blackwoods, whose remaining family members have been ostracized by a small community. We learn why: a terrible tragedy years before—poisoning, it seems—took the lives of everyone of the Blackwood clan excerpt three, Uncle Julian, Constance, and the narrator, Mary Katherine(aka “Merricat”). Constance was suspected, but ultimately acquitted of the poisoning. Living a life mainly of alienation away from the whispers of this town, the Blackwoods are able to manage. Merricat believes in such things as omens, and is vastly different compared to her sister, Constance. Uncle Julian is an invalid because he did have a bit of the poison that claimed the other Blackwoods’ lives, but not enough to kill him. This is a book that is difficult to reveal too much about plot without spoiling, but, when a certain cousin Charles suddenly arrives to the Blackwood home, the plot thickens.We Have Always Lived in the Castle is very reminiscent of Jackson’s short story “The Lottery” in its themes of mob mentality. As the remaining family members by to go about their lives, they are often the subject of subtle and not so subtle taunts and threats.There is a brilliantly atmospheric vibe to this novel. My feeling is that Shirley Jackson is incredibly underrated as an author, not being given quite the accolades she deserves. This book is one such example of her genius, an expertly crafted eerie tale with brilliant prose. It is a perfect book for a Halloween night.

I now want to read everything Shirley Jackson has ever written. Her last novel, We Have Always Lived in the Castle (published in 1962), is a dark and cool period mystery, following the wealthy Blackwood family in what seems like a century old New England. It’s hard to tell how old the narrator, Merricat Blackwood, is, or what her mental state reveals. She’s odd for sure, mad maybe, with a sharp eye for detail, and a shocking family tragedy in her past. The other main characters are her beautiful and mild elder sister, Constance, an elderly ill uncle Julian, and a motley cast of villagers and other high born. I was surprised and disturbed by each turn of events, and so I won’t say much more except that WHALitC is a short thrilling read and well worth your time. Ms. Jackson’s short story, The Lottery, garnered bags and bags of hate mail, when it came out in the New Yorker in 1948. You can bet that’s next on my list.
