About the Author

Vincent Hunanyan was born in 1991 in Armenia and grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia. His parents divorced when he was a toddler, and he was raised by his single-mother. In 2001, Vincent moved with his family to Sweden. After graduating high school, he moved to Los Angeles at the age of 19 where he attended Santa Monica City College and later UCLA, where he received a B.A. in English with a concentration in creative writing. Hunanyan's first official title, Black Book of Poems, was published on the 21st of May and became an instant bestseller with raving reviews from critics and poetry fans worldwide. I Wasn't Crying Over You is his first short story collection, published on September 21, mainly comprised of tales derived from the author's childhood growing up in St. Petersburg and his transition from childhood to adulthood. For that reason alone, it marks Hunanyan as one of few burgeoning talents in the field willing to crack open his mind and heart and allow the world to take a dip. He should again be applauded.

Black Book of Poems II by Vincent K. Hunanyan is a thoughtful collection of poetry that made me stop and think. While I didn't relate to every poem, I did enjoy reading this collection. I recommend this to fellow poetry lovers who enjoy modern poetry, and yes, enjoyed reading the first collection Black Book of Poems.

Maybe it is my dark side rising, but I am attracted to the pulse of this body of work. Vincent continues to play in the dark and produce something that shines the light on a side we don't often see or feel. They say that practice makes perfect, and Black Book of Poems 2 is headed in that direction. I find myself going back to a select few an feeling more. And feeling more, let alone just feeling, is what many people do not do in their own darkness.Nice job! Can't wait for more...

Vincent is a unique voice among modern poets. The first black book was a treat but this second one has knocked me off my feet. His poetry is beautiful and thoughtful. Poems that deserve to be read. I can't say enough good things. I'm glad that there is someone out there who hasn't forgotten the heart and art of true poetry.

Vincent writes beautiful poetry that everyone can appreciate and relate to. He is a very humble and sweet man. Read the preface before you dive in and be ready to devour this collection in one sitting.Also great if you are a teacher, my students love his poetry and were excited to hear about the release of this book.

I really liked the first Book of poems but this new one is even better! To be honest, I don’t read a lot of poetry but Vincent has got me hooked on this genre. His poems seems so honest and real and very easy to assimilate. And with this book he shows he has grown and developed as a writer. A pure joy to read! Thank you!

I had such high hopes for this book, considering the couple of good reviews where they seemed to have actually read and worked with the book. Yeah well... that was a mistake. Yes, I have ADD and yes, my spouse & I are having issues, some of which relate to my ADD and some of which do not. However, I have been trying to find good resources for us to work through them since our work schedules make us unable to go to therapy as a couple. So, I ordered the workbook & waited, hoping that this one might actually be one that would help us figure out and work on our issues, since I thought it was geared toward helping couples work on issues when one has ADD. That could not have been further from the truth.First of al, the book is horribly outdated. The publishers page says it was copyrighted in 2012. However, one big giveaway that this was written ages ago is when he talks about Adderall XR having been released "last year" when it was released in 2001. He also only ever references the DSM-IV when discussing diagnosis & symptoms, but DSM-V was released in 2013 and those criteria and symptoms have been updated and revised.This is not a "couples" workbook. This is a self-help workbook for a spouse that has ADD to try and make themselves a better partner for their significant other. It's not about the two spouses identifying issues that arise from the one's ADD and determining *together* how to fix the issue. It is completely geared toward the premise that the ADD spouse has issues they need to fix and the non-ADD spouse is pretty much perfect and doesn't have any issues of their own that need to be worked through. Except for the first section where he recommends the spouses both complete the rating of which areas they think are important and the section about sexual intimacy, where it asks questions like what's your fantasy sexual experience & what would make sex life better (but at the same time admonishes them not to give an answer that would make your spouse uncomfortable) and has spaces for your response & your love's response. Even the premise behind the whole "Love Bank" section is that the ADD parter will have far more emotional "withdrawals" from the Love Bank, so they need to make more effort making "deposits" to make their spouse feel more loved.The entirety of the workbook is full of victim blaming and exercises to make the ADD person see where they are screwing up and how they can fix things. Prime example was a "real life" couples excerpt about a couple where the ADD person had become a stay at home mom and agreed to take on all the housecleaning duties as part of their "agreement" for her to stay at home. Problem was that she hated mopping & dusting, so she avoided doing them by finding other things to do, going to see her mom, her sister, etc. Ok, sucks, but if you have ADD you KNOW what hell on earth it is to to be made to do chores that you despise with a passion (i'll avoid folding laundry till the day I die). But his conclusion at the end of the example? "The reality was that Emily's avoidance of a few chores that took a relatively small amount of her time per week was triggering events that were placing the relationship in jeopardy. How much easier would it have been to just fight through the avoidance and do the two hours' worth of chores?" (direct quote, page 51) Again - victim blaming anyone?So, as I said in the title to this review, this is NOT a workbook for couples. This is a workbook for an ADD person to use when they're convinced that their ADD is the root of all the problems in their relationship and they think that answering a bunch of questions will give them the insight to "fix" their ADD and suddenly have a perfect marriage.While I do write reviews of the things I order on Amazon, I have never wanted to write a lengthy review detailing what I liked or didn't like about a product. I love reading them (both the 5 stars AND the 1 stars) and think they often help me decide on what I want to buy, but I just never have the mental time to sit down and write one myself. However, my reaction to this "couples workbook" after I read through it (and yes, I read every word in it) was such that I felt it needed better details about what the book offered for those that were thinking about getting it.

A great idea in itself, but how many ADHD spouses will actually DO their part of the book? Not mine, even though initially, he was interested. Nothing new.

It's challenging to get a husband with ADHD to actually complete any workbook, but it is helping him see how many areas of his life are affected by ADHD

I'm someone with ADD (no hyperactivity) married to someone with ADHD. I haven't finished the workbook yet, but I'm finding it very helpful.

If I were someone who regularly diagnosed adults with ADHD, I would order cases of this workbook and give them out to everyone who was newly diagnosed. I remember when I was newly diagnosed, I had no idea how broadly ADHD affected my life--including my relationship with my husband.Most of the ADHD books out there seem to claim to be "ADHD-friendly"; usually this means that the author anticipates that readers will read a bit at a time. This book actually IS ADHD-friendly, because the entire structure of the book is based on getting readers the information that will be most beneficial to them. The whole workbook is straightforward and to the point. The first chapter is titled "Getting All You Can From This Book", and it briefly summarizes each of the chapters and encourages the ADHD reader (and the non-ADHD partner!) to rate how useful particular topics sound. The author has several chapters that he thinks are for everyone, but then readers are encouraged to skip around or skim and use relevant portions. The actual chapters are each pretty short, so it's easy to work through this gradually without losing anything. Most of the chapters have a basic discussion of how the issue applies to adults with ADHD and why it matters, sometimes there is a relevant story and/or tips for how to deal with that issue, and then there are exercises (questions with space for you to answer).The author is a psychotherapist, but he also has ADHD, so he does include very relevant information. Throughout the workbook, you almost feel like he is a friend who can relate, because he opens up and shares many of his own experiences. I felt like the author was very likeable.Although this book is called "The ADHD Marriage Workbook," it really isn't only about marriage. As far as I could tell, as I worked through the workbook, there are two main ways that this workbook is beneficial to marriages: first, the author encourages the ADHD spouse to work through the workbook with the non-ADHD spouse. (Many exercises specifically include the non-ADHD spouse.) Second, some of the content is specifically about marriage. Many of the example stories are examples from other people's relationships, and some of the chapters emphasize how ADHD affects relationships (the sexual intimacy chapter and a chapter about sharing responsibilities come to mind). So, if you're hoping to improve your marriage, this workbook will help with that, BUT if you're not married, or even not in a relationship at all, don't let the title throw you off--your ADHD is definitely affecting your life and your interactions with other people, and this workbook addresses those things. You don't actually need to go through the workbook with a spouse (or anyone else) to benefit. (Although if you do, it will definitely be helpful.)I thought the main strength of this workbook is that it very adequately addresses the ADULT symptoms of ADHD. For me it was a good reminder of all of the ways that ADHD affects my life and my marriage. Because the official diagnostic criteria are for symptoms that are seen in children, sometimes ADHD books have trouble applying or translating those symptoms to adults. I felt that this author treated the subject of retroactive diagnosis really well. The topics covered in the workbook were well selected, and I think any adult with ADHD will find some sections that are useful.Another great thing about this workbook is that it increases awareness. It is extremely important in relationships for people to be on the same page. I remember when my husband and I discovered how much ADHD was affecting our marriage; sometimes I was being careless, and he felt like I was deliberately doing things that were harming our relationship. Once he realized I was just being careless, the things that were problems were still problems, but they were much less frustrating, because he knew I was genuinely trying to make our relationship good. This book is a perfect springboard for discussion, especially between married couples.There were a couple things I didn't really like about this workbook. The author refers to ADHD (or AD/HD) as "ADD" throughout the book. There is a note at the beginning of the book explaining his rationale for doing that, but it still bothered me (although it may not bother other readers). Also, some of the content is directed more toward men with ADHD; more men have ADHD, and the author is a man, so this isn't really surprising, but it made some of the content less relevant for me.Overall, this workbook is quite good, and I really recommend it especially for anyone who is newly diagnosed, or anyone who wants a book that is very direct and to-the-point that will help them improve their life, and especially their relationship.

I love this cookbook. I am very comfortable in the kitchen - a 20 year home "veteran"- and own the Modernist Cuisine series among another shelf of fantastic books. I cook by pressure, sous vide, charcoal grill, etc. etc. But no other recipe have I cooked have I been so proud.The problem with my review is that I love the first recipe I made *so* much that I am afraid to make anything else for fear of disappointment. The chicken Karahi recipe is literally *to die for* and absolutely the quality of a restaurant entree. Oh, and did I mention that it is simple? with clear instructions? I have also made the Raita and and Masoor Daal. Both - wonderful. Right now I am simmering Bhunay Naryal and it smells fantastic. I think that is a sign I will have to break out and try more of the brilliance in this book. I saw 'spicy shrimp' as I scrolled thru looking for the name of a few recipes. Why haven't I tried that yet?

Bossy, quirky, funny, loving, and above all highly-informative, this book is exactly what one wants counterside as one cooks.As a lifelong vegetarian in search of new daal recipes, I was reluctant to buy a not-entirely-vegetarian cookbook, but Raza's writing is so entrancing that I found myself - and this is Not Usual - drooling over even the meat recipes.Raza doesn't shy away from ingredients that might be unfamiliar to people from other places, but he's helpful as to both where to find things and what to use for substitutions - not to mention in his descriptions of WHY a particular substance is called for...His step by step instructions serve beginners who might not be sure of their technique, but they also elucidate matters for the more experienced cook.A wonderful read!

When I first left India for graduate school in the U.S., my cooking skills were almost nil. I had to learn everything the hard way. I asked around and experimented (finding myself all alone on my 30th birthday, I even baked myself a cake rather than suffer in silence). Eventually I developed a modest repertoire of dishes I could cook well. I wish I had a guidebook like this back then. In the early days, to borrow Abbas's description of his own early experiments, “I probably should have been arrested for some of the meals I made”. :-)In his foreword, Robin Varghese, also a founding editor of 3 Quarks Daily (who is apparently an excellent cook himself), notes the importance of getting the basics right in order to reliably reproduce dishes that taste just right. Abbas focuses on those basics. His attention to detail is meticulous. Every recipe in his final draft was tested by his Italian wife. I also like his unpretentious approach to food. "I stand resolutely against the gourmandizing spirit,” he writes. “I have eaten at some of the best and fanciest restaurants in the world and can honestly say that I prefer tacos from a good food truck to most of the courses I have had there.” If you’re a lover of Pakistani and North Indian food, definitely give this a try.

I haven’t had a chance to make any of the recipes yet. But I like the format of the book and the fact that there are picture of the dishes. I’m looking forward to trying them out.I’m attaching a picture of the table of contents (which has a list of the recipes included in the book) because that’s one thing I would have liked to have had before I purchased it. I hope it’s helpful.

After Coke Studio, this book is one of the best things to come out of Pakistan! As someone who has spent nearly a decade living away from Pakistan and switching countries often, I have spent many a day missing the gastronomic delights of the desi bawarchikhana (South Asian kitchen). Eventually I decided to (literally) take matters into my own hands. Thanks to 3 Quarks Daily, I was fortunate to know of Abbas's book, and it has been an excellent investment. Recipes are crisply written, easy to follow, and often accompanied by interesting anecdotes (Obama makes a great queema!). Moreover, the book will assist even a novice to get a South Asian kitchen up and running in a short period. Abbas, this is a life-saver for young professionals with an interest in South Asian cooking. For me, it has meant that one can take Pakistan - in the form of its unmatched cuisine - along no matter where one may be. On behalf of all young Pakistanis in exile, I salute your superb contribution to the world of culinary writing!

Wow. This cook book is pure wizardry. Be careful if your religious beliefs punish you for dabbling in magic. Because if you read the words contained in this book, and follow the supremely clear instructions for ingredients and processes, your hands will be imbued with the culinary skills of a North Indian / Pakistani grandmother. The kind of grandmother that all the villagers know for her cooking and warm charm (which this book's author has an abundance of!).I'm seriously shocked at the level of flavor and authenticicty that comes out of these dishes that my pale white hands managed to cook. Your friends will eat these dishes and look up at you with a blank stare, internally wondering why their friend would take the time to pay someone to cook this well and claim it as their own. The dishes taste better than anything you'll get at a Pakistani / Indian restaurant. I wouldn't even put it in the same category as restaurant food in fact, because these dishes all have a home-cooked feel to them that I have never been able to pay money to enjoy. The second your fork-fulls of perfectly cooked aromatic spicy shrimp, explosively flavorful kebab patties, or subtlety sophisticated masoor daal begins to disperse themselves onto the surface area of your taste buds, you'll realize this purchase was simply one of the best you've ever made in your life.TL;DR Highly recommended. My wife and I are presently traveling through Bavaria,Austria and Salzburg. We found Rick Steve's Snapshot Munich highly informative, practical and a great book to carry along with you when visiting some of so many great places he suggested. We could not agree more with this experienced traveler's philosophy on becoming a wiser tourist without mortgaging your house in the process. We also bought his more authoritative "Germany 2013" that, in our opinion,is more intended to be read with more leasure rather than on the move, such as "Snapshot Munich, Bavaria & Salzburg".In summary, Rick does it again! A book written from the perspective of a wiser tourist that we eventually are becoming with his detailed readings and a down-to-earth view of how to have fun in an intelligent way.

I went on a trip to Munich and took this along with me. I had always wanted to travel to Germany (I took German in school and my father's side of the family is from Germany and Switzerland) so I had a good idea of what I wanted to see but this book really made the whole experience much easier. We went on the trip with a large group of people but for the most part we were left to our own devices and allowed to travel to where we wanted. As the trip went on I found that a lot of people were asking me where they should go and how to get to places specifically because I had looked through this book and knew how to get to places and what the really good sights were.I also really like the snapshot style of the book. It made it easy to read and gives a really good but quick look at the city of Munich and the surrounding areas.I would definitely buy another of these books when I travel out of the States again.

We were on longer guided walking and music tours of Austria, but had single days in Salzburg and Munich on our own. When we were about to leave Vienna, I downloaded the Kindle version of this book and it proved to be just what we needed. His suggested walking tours of the cities gave us manageable activities that let us see what we could of each city, and find reasonable places to eat. Had we been organizing longer visits on our own, we might have wanted more, but this was well worth its low price to us on this trip. I agree that trying to read the maps on the Kindle version can be inconvenient--I didn't look into this, but it might be a good idea if they put on their own website a way that you could download and print hard copies of the map to carry around and refer to (perhaps some sort of unlock code in the text of the book similar to what the "Hawaii Revealed" books had for their online resort reviews).

If you are going to this area then this is a great book to get. Small enough but includes all the necessary info. Rick Steves' guidebooks are the first I turn to when I get ready to plan a trip, and this one is really just excerpts (word for word) from the Germany and Austria ones, but since Munich, Fussen and Salzburg are my destinations for that area this book works perfectly. Don't be expecting color pictures - there are only a few black and whites (normal for Rick Steves' books), and he likes to do hand-drawn maps (some times they work well, other times they are confusing). At the end of the day this is the book I will be carrying with me on my travels to that area.

While I thought that I would miss color, glossy pictures (which this guidebook does not have), it is packed with very useful information. I used it to help plan my trip and throughout my trip. It very lightweight. It fits into any purse or backpack & doesn't look that noticeable walking around with it. The map drawings included in the pages are fairly accurate. Of course, you will get other large scale maps at the airport or central train station. Munich is very friendly & provides a lot of help for tourists.The helpful hint section for Fussen (to visit the Neuschwanstein castle) was very useful. We rented bikes & it was one of the best parts of the trip!Overall, I highly recommend this guidebook.

Amazing book that helped so much with a recent trip. Lodging, food, and sights are all easily found and organized in this book. His personalized views allow you to take or leave many things, mostly all great takes.

As always, Rick Steves' book was a terrific asset to our recent trips to Munich and Salzburg. We always feel as though he's traveling right along with us and have complete confidence in all his suggestions. He is our travel guru and we so greatly appreciate his work. Paula and Larry Nappi

I found this book helpful (and as with all of Rick Steve guides, it comes with helpful tips and tricks about the best time of day to do things, what to say and ask for, etc), but I wish he had a guide just for Munich as I did not leave the city. That said, had I been planning any day trips out of the city, I felt the content on the various options was really helpful. I'm saving it for the next time I go to Bavaria.

The info seemed to be good, though the links in the book always lead to you having to add your email address to a list before seeing any of the information referenced. But that's typical.The think that annoys me about this book are the amount of typos. Published books should not have typos. It makes it seem sloppy and rushed, things you don't want to see when you're reading about how to invest large sums of money.

Too much fluff and 'pump you up' sales speeches. I want straight and to the point, I don't attend 'excitable' seminars and I don't want to read one either. I want content, I want depth, I want broad and focused perspective. I put it down because it wasn't a good use of my limited research energy and time. I bookmarked and re-read the J Scott book. Just got my first house at a screaming price, totally confident and comfortable, in the whole process. I'll make some money and the house will make a new owner a very happy home.

So, this is the 3rd edition of this book. The updates are great and timely as it includes Instagram in this edition. It's a good introduction to how to start data mining from social web. The language is easy to understand and follow. The authors make all their code available on GitHub, and it's relatively easy to use. Code has been updated to Python 3.Purchasers should know that there is also an option to purchase directly from the publisher that includes updates to the text of book (and if use their DropBox or Google drive sync, they update automatically).
